Went to Boca Grande Pass to fish and watch the Tarpon Tournament.
As I head out from my canal I thought it was going be a nice ride to the Pass. The water was dead flat and not a cloud in the sky.
As I made my way further into the harbor the chop started at about a foot, as I rounded the Cape Haze peninsula the chop turned into a 2 to 3 foot chop.
When I hit Boca Grande Pass there were 4 foot seas, I had waves breaking over the bow.
And was having a hard time just holding on as I was motoring.
When I stopped to take some pictures, the boat was doing a lot of rolling and not a lot of fun.
There were lots of boats there fishing , but I was not in the mood for dealing with the rough seas.
We headed back into the harbor to the deep hole, when we arrived there were a few boats the fish hooked.
One was a tarpon the jumped about 10 times before the guy lost it and the other was a shark that the guy fought for 30 minutes.
Even though there were tarpon all around us, I never got a hook up.
I guess I’ll have try it again tomorrow.
