Charlotte Harbor
« on: May 12, 2010, 10:48:26 AM »
Fished for a few hours this morning until the winds picked up and started blowing a 3' chop out there.

Some of the reports were showing mackerel being caught in the deep whole in the harbor.

After getting a little bait I headed over that way, but saw about 10 boats fishing way outside of the deep hole.

I trolled deep diving plug over that way and watch for a while but did not see any hookups.

Headed back towards the deep hole and at about 19 feet I saw a few birds diving, at that point the chop was about 2' so I did not see any bait on the water.

As soon as I got close my trolling line went off.
I shut the motor down, grabbed the rod and I see something come to the surface and then I lost it.

I don't know what it was, but it was pretty big. I was trolling about 200 yards behind the boat so I could not see it very well.

Seeing more birds at about 20' of water I started casting my spoon into the bait I could see on the meter and caught a keeper size mackerel.

At that point the wind was blowing hard, 3' chop and I has having a hard time standing up.

Even though there were fish there, I was not having much fun and came back in.

One good thing, my boat had a very nice dry ride, even at 30 mph through the stuff.

I would have been  soaked in my skiff even at 10 mph.

I'm one for not taking a pounding to go fishing either.
With the winds this week, I've been staying in.

Forecasts are predicting about the same into next week, think I will be staying home for a while.

Lets hope the weather is good for the weekend.

My husband and I work during the week so we can only fish on weekends.

Our plan is to fish Sunday if any of you guys are out, let me know.
