Beach off Gasparilla
« on: April 17, 2010, 08:22:02 PM »
Launched out of Placida today with Topdog on my boat around 8:30.
Picked up some shrimp on the way out at Eldred's.

Heading into Gasparilla Sound the wind was blowing and the chop increasing as we made our way towards Boca Pass.

I started thinking that we were in for a windy uncomfortable day on the water.
Luckily as we made our way into the pass and onto the Gulf side of Gasparilla Island the seas flatten out as the wind was blocked by the island.
With a light breeze and the sun mostly behind the clouds we found ourselves enjoying very nice weather.

We started looking for bait and birds without much luck.
Halfway up Gasparilla Island we anchored in 12’ of water long the crap trap lines over some nice bottom.
Hang a chum bag over the side and started fishing.

We were hoping to see some cobia, Spanish or Kings but had no luck.

With a  shrimp under a cork I did catch a few keeper size Sheepshead and a few smaller ones.
Never saw any bait or birds but it was still a nice day on the water.

Providing the weather holds up tomorrow & it doesn't rain, I will show you where the Mack's are hitting pretty good. I'm going to try to get out there atleast by 1pm. I just have to be sure it isn't going to rain. I also have my wife's grandparents in town from Pennsylvania, so I can't go out until they decide to head home.     $#^~    It's ok though, atleast I'll be sure I won't be getting wet in the rain before I go.

I'll call you when I get out there Dave. I'm putting in at PC beach ramp, then heading towards the pass. It'll be myself & my wife. Hope to see you out there if it doesn't rain!     ~`4    You should bring Marty with you!

The near shore reefs, just a few mile from where you were fishing has been producing a consistent bite of Spanish, with Kings as well.

Ya, I thought about it, but the weather was not all that great. I did not want to get caught in the rain.

So we stayed close in and still got caught in the rain.

Went out on the river today with my son & my neighbor. Didn't catch anything, but it was a nice day to just be out on the water.     ^-^

I really want to get back over to the Boca area, but this weather has been unpredictable.     $#^~

I like to try to get out as much as possible, but it all depends on what the wife has planned for the weekend. If she doesn't have something going on, I'm there! I'll try to be out there, I hope the weather is better this weekend!    :-\

I think I have to change the plugs in my motor. I could feel it missing when I was driving it yesterday. I got it home & flushed it out on the hose, while it was running, it was backfireing. I think it's either the plugs or the fuel filter. I'm unsure of what the cause of it is, but those are my guesses.
