Thats a big 10-4 buddy! I'll be there! I'll do my best to answer any questions I can for you & tell you all about what I know of the area. I've lived off this river all my life, so I know most of it like the back of my hand.     :A

I am excited to meet with you & Dave, as are my friends. Hope all your stuff you got at Franks works good for you. The only thing I can say is that I always had the best luck with live bait, artificials never did me much good. Atleast not in the river. We can all share ideas & know-how of different tackle, bait & tecniques.     ~9~

Things are looking good for this Saturday's Get Together.

Looks like my wife has to work, My usually fishing buddy is out of town for a while and Reeling dropped out, so I have an open spot on my boat.

Topdog and I will launching our boats from Harbor Beach,

How about you James?

We can then decide where and when to meet.

One of your post said you might launch from PC Beach, not sure where that is.

If anyone else is going to make it let us know.  ~`6  !!~

Thanks,

If we are all going to launch at "PC"
then maybe we can meet at marker #2.

It does not matter to me,

Not sure where you guys want to fish.

I'll PM James with my Phone Number.

That is fine Dave. Yeah, PC Beach is the same as your Harbor ramp. We know it as Port Charlotte Beach ramp. "PC".

As for a meeting spot, I figured we could keep the same spot to meet, but I'll discuss it with Nick & see if we can come up with a better spot. I was thinking, if we launch from PC ramp we'll be back-tracking when we actually go out to fish if we meet at the bridges as originally planned. I'm sure most of us will want to head out towards the Boca area. I'll give you a call when I get your number once I've talked to Nick.     :A

Hey James, Dave tells me you are thinking of heading to Boca on Saturday.  Let me know cause if we are going down there I think I would rather launch from Placida.  I will never keep up with ya if we boat all the way down there.  Sent you a message, let me know.

Yeah, we will definatly have to do it again! I just hope next time, we all are able to catch something!    ~`6

We did make it back in one peice, I guess my engine was clogged up with junk. I got it home & my neighbor Dave & I tore down the foot expecting to find a really messed up impeller. Turns out the impeller was in perfect shape, infact, it was brand new! No issues there, so we checked the thermostat just to see if it was clogged, nothing there either, all looked well. Finally we just took a compressor & blew out all the lines & cleaned everything up the best we could & put it all back together. I ran it on the hose for about 5 minutes or so & everything seemed to be working good. I'm going to try to take it out tomorrow to be sure all is well.

I had a good time this Saturday even though my motor broke on me & we didn't catch anything. It was nice to finally get to meet you guys & as I said before, I hope we can do it again soon! Maybe next time we could all meet at the El-Jobean launch & ride from there to Boca. It's not too far of a ride from there, about 15 minutes or so. I would say another couple weeks & the weather should be warming up, maybe we'll aim for sometime then!

Oh & Marty, I don't drive my boat too fast, so you should be able to keep up with me pretty good. My boat isn't too much faster than Dave's.    :A

Glad you made it back without any problems and it was not anything major.

I pick up some sand too, in my pressure gauge hose.

Lets do it again in a few weeks when it fishing picks up.

Launching from Placida works ok too. Its about 5 or 6 miles to the pass and you can pick up bait right there too.

Topdog and I are planing on taking the wife's to Cabbage Key one of these days in our boats, If anyone else wants to join in that would be great.

Yeah, we'll see whats going on! The only issue I have is making sure I have enough money to put gas in my boat & truck. Other than that, I'm good for it. I'm sure Nick will join me as well.     :A

As for where to launch from, where ever is fine by me, we just need to meet at the same time & launch together. That way we can all fish together, maybe we could split off from eachother a little bit here & there to try to cover more ground. Hopefully, one of us will come back with something good.    ~8~

Meeting on the water or meeting at the ramp, either works for me.

As soon as the tides pick up a little and I can get my boat off of my lift in the morning I will be taking it off the trailer and putting on the lift and leaving from my home dock.

When Marty and I return to Placida ramp on Sunday there was a crowd of boats waiting to get back in.
Things went smoothly and we did not have to wait too long but it is still a pain in the butt and one of the reasons I enjoy having my own backyard lift.
I just wish Charlotte County would put my tax money to good use and dredge my canal so I could use it year round.

I plan on getting out this week and on the weekend, so any time is good for me on meeting.

With the water temp as cold as it has been the bite is not all that great with little bait around.

Hopefully we will get a good week of 75-80 degree days that will warm things up a bit.

I want to get out there as soon as possible to try to get something, but I put the boat in today to try it out & it's peeing just fine, only thing is, it's not letting the prop spin fast enough to get it on plane. The engine idles fine & pushes the boat along just fine at an idle, but once I give it throtle, anything past about 1600 rpms, the engine runs to whatever I run it to, but the power doesn't go to the prop. It won't let me get above idle! I think it is part of the computer system, when it overheated the other day, it shut the motor down to just an idle. So I think I need to take it somewhere & have them reset it. Any suggestions?    ~0~

Sounds like you spun the prop.

The prop and rubber shaft bushing separated and not holding

You should be able to test it buy pulling the plug wires for safety and seeing if you can spin the prop while in gear without turning the motor over.

Just make sure you pull the plug wire, you don’t want the motor to start, could get messy.

It's  actually a common problem, especially if you ran aground. The bushing are made to separate so you don't damage the lower end.

Yup, spun your prop. At least that's what it sounds like.

A prop shop should be able to replace the hub for you.

You don’t want to spin it on the motor in gear, even smaller hp motors will have some compression kick-back.

Make a line with a marker on the  prop and bushing and take the boat for a ride, if the lines don’t line up when you’re done you confirmed your problem.

Yeah, you guys are right.    ;)

I spun the prop.    :P    I took it off this afternoon & there is melted rubber behind it. I guess it melted the bushing.    ~8~

I think it's about $50 to fix, not bad, but still sucks to have to spend the money. Oh well, what are ya gonna do I guess, need to fish!     %4%

Hopefully you can have it repaired soon and get back out on the water.

Did you find a Prop Shop around here to fix it?

50 bucks sounds about right  :A

Good Luck, perhaps I'll meet you guys on the water one of these times when you have a get together.
A friend of mine lives on Charlotte Harbor and we fish together occasionally. He is harbor fisherman with a pontoon boat and I’m more of an offshore person.

I took it down to SOS Marine this morning & left it with them. They said it would be about a week before I get it back. They are charging me $60 to fix it, not too bad.

Hopefully it will last me for a while!     ~`4
