Most of my reels are spooled with mono, Ande back country. The stretch is a bit more forgiving and I think I catch as many as the braid guys. Probably my "old school" showing.
One only needs two tools in life: WD-40 to make things go, and duct tape to make them stop.

I’m a braid guy too. With mono you have to change your line every few months to eliminate the memory and other problems associated with mono.

With braid you only need to change your leader and the braid lasts 5 to 7 years.

I use a hundred yards of mono if I’m fishing in waters over 200 feet for big fish, but in the shallow waters of the gulf or in-shore waters I only use braid with a leader.

I also like the feel of braid, you can feel every little twitch on the line compared to mono.

i heard that braid cuts much easier on sharp rocks or things of that nature. I have rods with both, i usually use mono just because i hate getting wind knots

I fish with braid and a fluorocarbon leader.

I like the braid because it last so long and will not develop a memory like mono does.
When I fished with mono only I was changing my line every few fishing trips or several times a month due to abrasion and memory.

As far as the wind knots, get the line wet before casting. I wet my reels before casting for the first time or if I’m not driving the boat I usually let a lot of line out while the boat is moving. Just the line and leader no hooks or lead.

I let out a few hundred yards or half of what is on my reels and then reel it back up. The benefits are two-fold first the line gets wet and second winding it while moving allows the line to be put back on very tight. And braid needs to be on tight.
