I got it to fire over today. It is only firing on 1 cylinder. I've replaced all the other coils & nothing! I know the power pack is good, I just need to find some good coils! Hopfully I will be out on the water soon!!!    :-[

Yeah, I guess it is. I know this is a good engine though. It fired up & ran for a minute when I turned it over, but it was only running on 2 cylinders. I played around with the packs & cleaned them up & turns out that 2 of them are good. One on each side is firing, so I know it has nothing to do with anything else but the coil packs. I am going to get 3 new ones Friday just to be safe. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.    :)

I got the new coil packs & turns out to be the power pack that needs replaced. Another 100 bucks gone, but atleast I won't have to worry about any of these things going bad on me anytime soon!

New update!! I got it fired up!    ~~!    This whole time I was focusing on the engine & thought all my issues lied within there. WRONG! All along it was the dumb harness! I went up to my buddies shop & told him to try his spare one just to see if it would make my power pack get power to it, go figure, as soon as he hit the key, it fired up & ran!! So, he let me have his spare harness & controls. I've got it all put in the boat now & all is well!

Only issue now is, I am replaceing the water pump. I ran it on the muffs & it wasn't pissin'. Atleast now I KNOW what the issue is & it's not that hard to fix & not too expensive.    ))`   I've got it torn down already & the impeller is worn & the metal cup inside is worn aswell. Should be on the water by this coming weekend!    @!@!

Finally. Glad you got everything worked out. Maybe we should all meet you at the ramp with a bottle of champagne for a christening. Enjoy the boat, you deserve it. Tight lines!

I took it out last weekend & come to find out that I'm only getting spark on the 2 cylinders on the port side.   #@**  I got it in the water & I couldn't get it to stay running, so I pulled it out, took it home & inspected everything. Thats when I found out I had no spark. It starts & runs on the 2, but runs sloppy. I've replaced the power pack, all 4 coils & the wiring harness. There isn't much left to replace. I called a place called J & C Drydocking, they told me that for $40 they would tell me what is wrong with it & I could either fix it myself, or pay them to do the job. I'm taking it there Friday needless to say.    :(

As for the Johnson engine, I've heard nothing but good things about them! Just need to get her going properly.    ~0~

$#^~Hey guy, here's hoping they tell you it is something small that you overlooked in your replacement of what you've done so far.  Better weather is moving in and better news for you on Friday on your boat.

You may need to do an exocism to  chase those electrical gremlins. Hopefully it is something simple. It sounds like you replaced the major components. I don't remember what year that engine is, but I believe there are charging coils under the flywheel, that charge the capacitors, that charge the coils. I don't remember all the workings, but it has to do with the magnets on the flywheel. Anyway, hope it's just a loose wire. Keep us posted.

~`6  Went down to El Jobean pier for a few hours this morning.  Lots of small mangrove snappers and a few cats but still nothing for the table %2%.  Better weather is coming and hopefully some keepers.  Guy using net for bait came up with a ton of baby snook.  Got a few shiners mixed in.

TD...What did you use for bait? If you're using shrimp, add a popping cork about 2' above the hook. Cast out and work it in popping as you go. There should be some trout around. You can also use some whitebait (shiners) in the same manner or just freelined. Dinner is right around the corner.

A popping cork is a tapered float made of styrofoam. There are a few different styles. Some are weighted. The line is passed through and secured by a pin that comes with it. There are also models that come with a wire that goes through the cork and line is attacted above it and the leader and hook below. So think of fishing with a bobber. Anyway, when you jerk the line as you are reeling in, the cork will "pop" or create a splash. This is a proven trout catcher especially on grass flats. If you go into any tackle store or even Wal-Mart, you will see a selection of sizes and styles. The theory behind them is the commotion on the surface tends to draw in the predators. Hope this helps. To the right is a regular bobber, to the left is a popping cork. These are relativly cheap at Wal-Mart.    :A

You can also use them with a silver spoons for macks or even a D.O.A. or gulp shrimp instead of live bait. They do work on a variety of species. Tight lines.
